A season of change
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven"
Ecclesiastes
Dear Friends,
I have some big news for everyone and for Ivy Street. Since returning to our wonderful new building it has become clear that we are entering a new season of the life of Ivy Street, and we need some new energy and new ideas in order to develop and grow. To make full use of our fabulous building in order to continue to bless and serve our community in Hoxton and beyond. Both Claire and I have recognised that we are also entering a new season of our lives and we need to make way for new blood and so we have a redundancy and a leaving to face this year.
The role of the Centre Manager has dwindled over the last year or so with the streamlining of some processes through technology and our fabulous team of Chloe and Victoria taking on more responsibilities, so Claire's post is becoming redundant and she will be leaving us at Easter after 10 years of amazing work helping Ivy Street become the place it is today.
I have come to realise that I no longer have the energy and and the 'oomph' to take Ivy Street to the next stage of it's life, so I will be leaving my role of Executive Director in July, making way for a new Director of Operations role which will encompass some of my role and the new responsibilities of managing our fabulous building, developing the range of services and securing a sustainable rental income to support our work for the long term.
Both Claire and I are feeling a huge mixture of things as we face the next few months, some sadness, but also excitement for what is to come for Ivy Street and the new team. Change is always hard, but we both feel the time is right to make way for new ideas, new motivation and new skills.
We both have a very long history with Ivy Street, having brought our own children to the play sessions, those children are now 27, 22 and 16! We have had an enormous amount of fun together and helped make so many memories for the families and for ourselves.
It is difficult to think that we will not be working together any more, but we remain great friends and will continue to love and support Ivy Street after leaving the day to day running of the centre.
From being mums to volunteers to workers, Claire and I have been involved with Ivy Street for a collective 39 years! It is fair to say that we both enjoy an adventure and some dressing up - both of which have been features of our time at Ivy Street together. Here are a few photos of us dressed up and doing something silly to have fun with the families (well, not just the families to be honest!). From sponsored pyjama walks to The JP and Steve Show for 250 people via exotic animals and mixing with the great and the good, it has been a wonderful, wonderful experience and I can't think of anything else I would rather have done with my life for the last 24 years!
Claire and I are leaving a legacy of love, acceptance and dedication in the team and we look forward to welcoming the new person to take Ivy Street into the next phase of it's life.
We know that the families are in safe hands with Chloe and Victoria looking after them and we know that this new role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the heart and passion to serve this brilliant community.
